Nail Surgery for Adults and Children

Nail Surgery for Adults and ChildrenLWDadmin2025-02-12T16:54:33+00:00

Nail Surgery for Adults and Children

Nail surgery is a routine minor procedure to help relieve the discomfort from ingrown and painful toenails and reduce the recurrence of infections. It is experienced while you are awake under a local anaesthetic.

Nail surgery has a very high success rate and can provide a permanent and safe solution for persistent ingrown toenails or other toenail problems.

Rachel understands that adults and children alike may feel anxious about nail surgery and approaches the procedure with patience, gentleness and care. She will do her best to put you at ease throughout the process.

Rachel Miller is a highly experienced chiropodist and podiatrist who regularly performs nail surgery on patients of all ages, including young children and teens.

Please see below if you want more information about nail surgery.

Nail Surgery for Adults and Children

Suitability for Nail Surgery

Not everyone requires nail surgery. If you or your child have been recommended for nail surgery, you will have an initial consultation with Rachel for a comprehensive examination. During this consultation, you will discuss the best way to treat you or your child’s condition and any questions you have will be answered.  You will be given clear advice about pre- and post-operative care.

Procedure for Nail surgery

Nail Surgery involves removing one side of the nail (partial nail avulsion), or sometimes the whole toenail (total nail avulsion). Following the removal, the affected nail bed is typically treated with a chemical called phenol to prevent this painful part of the nail from growing back.  Nail surgery is experienced while you are awake under a local anaesthetic.

Cost of Nail Surgery

The cost of nail surgery is £300 for one toe which includes up to two  follow-ups for re-dressing.

If you have questions about nail surgery call Highgate Podiatry on 020 8348 5553, leave a message for Rachel who will typically call you back within 24 hours. Rachel is recognised by most of the major insurance companies for nail surgery.

Before undergoing nail surgery there are some risks to be aware of, including:

  • Nails regrowing and requiring further removal. This occurs in less than 5 out of every 100 cases.
  • Potential infection in the toe after the procedure, which may necessitate the use of antibiotics.
  • Mild pain or soreness after the anesthesia wears off, which is normal and typically short-lived.
  • Rare instances of allergic reactions to the local anesthesia.
